Biography
The modern version of Asha Bhosle, Sunidhi Chauhan, a playback singer is best known for peppy and foot-tapping numbers. She has sung many such songs in Bollywood and has also recorded for Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali and Gujarati films and is credited with over 2000 songs.
Chauhan began her career in singing at the age of four and was discovered by a local TV anchor. She came into limelight through a televised singing contest, Meri Awaz Suno. He won the contest and there was no stopping her from thereon. She also was a part of the singing show, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, hosted by Sonu Nigam. Her first Hindi song was from the movie Shastra.
Ram Gopal Verma gave her the first big hit in her career, she sang the hit song, "Ruki Ruki Si Zindagi" from the movie Mast. Since then she has always been the first choice for singing hard-hitting songs and dance numbers. She has been nominated for fourteen Filmfare Awards, winning it on three occasions. She has won two Star Screen Awards, two IIFA Awards and one Zee Cine Award.
Chauhan, who believes that she is "the most versatile singer today," attributes her success to her parents and Indian singer Sonu Nigam. She says she would want to do only one film sometime in her life, just to fulfill her dreams of seeing herself as actress.
Personal Life
Sunidhi Chauhan is the singer who is having confidence on her that she will achieve the things she wants to achieve in her life. She was taken birth in Delhi and grew up at the same place. She was directed to singing by her father, who was a minor employer in a theatre in Delhi itself. She is also having a younger sister, Suneha and she called Sonu Nigam as the inspiration for her in the Indian Film Industry. She is also known herself as the most versatile singer of today. She also dedicated her success to her parents. Asked about the favorite things of her in her life, she told that her favorite movie is Sadma and Akshaye Khanna as her favorite actor and favorite actor is Madhuri Dixit. She likes Cricket and Gymnastics. Apart from all these things, she also loves western music. She was highly inspired by Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey. She also received the global fame as they did. She is highly inspired by thye international diva, Celine Dion.
As she entered into the film industry, her first target was to provide good quality songs to her fans. She also took care of her weight and lost 12 kilos. This happened through regular jogging and work outs. She also increased the level of her wardrobe. She was having a secret dream of herself as she wants to watch her as a Bollywood Actress. She was having some offers at that time but she also had to sing songs for the films for which she was contracted. She also aimed always to sing better in her life. She was at the age of 18 when she was married to choreographer and director Bobby Khan. She worked with him in the music album Pehla Nasha. There was a rumor that the couple married secretly at a ceremony. It was also attended by her friends and the marriage was under security. She was very happy after her marriage and she called her husband as her support in an interview that she attended after her marriage.
This marriage was really spitted the sisters and family members from her. They disowned her and she was no more a child to them. As a result, after a year, the couple was separated from each other and then she did not go to her parents. She was taken care by her mentor and famous Television Anchor and actor, Annu Kapoor. He took care of her with his wife, Arunita. She also filed the divorce case against her husband and they were finally separated from each other. It all happened in a year after the marriage itself. Later on in the year 2012, she tied knot with her friend of child and music composer, Hitesh Sonik. The reception was attended by very few people of the industry that were close to her like Asha Bhosle, Alka Yagnik, Konkana Sen Sharma and others.
Parents and Siblings
Delhi was the birth place of the famous singer Sunidhi Chauhan.
She was introduced to the music industry at a very young age by her father, who was a minor theatre personality. Suneha Chauhan is her younger sister.
On the advice of Tabassum, a TV host, who spotted her talent, the family shifted their base to Mumbai to enhance her music career.
Husband
Chauhan married director-choreographer Bobby Khan at the age of 18 in 2002. It happened after working for the music video “Pehla Nasha”. The marriage was reportedly a secret affair attended only by few very close friends.
The marriage resulted in her separation from her parents who argued that this will also affect her sister’s life, thereby giving a bad impression. The couple eventually got divorced. During this period, she was supported by Annu Kapoor who was her mentor.
She married her childhood friend Hitesh Sonik, whom she had known for over 15 years on April 2012 at a 5 star hotel in Bandra.
Hitesh is a musician and the grand nephew of well known music director Sonik of the Sonik-Omi pair of the 60s and 70s. He is known for composing songs for films like ‘Stanley Ka Dabba’ and ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’.
